The Korean company LS Cable & System announced that it has commercialized a communication cable using carbon fiber. The company adopted fiber as the shielding material for protecting the cable.
Conventionally, copper or aluminum are used as the shielding materials. If carbon fiber is used, the cable will be at least 10-20% lighter but will also be at least 30% more flexible and durable.
LS C&S has finished preparation for mass-production of LAN cables that will be used for equipment operation and system management in smart factories and buildings and is now trying to apply the new technology to all industrial cables.
