Composite Integration and Artemis Technologies have completed a three-year development programme focused on manufacturing a critical composite structural component for Artemis’ next-generation electric hydrofoil vessels. The result is a repeatable, production-ready resin infusion process designed to deliver high laminate quality while reducing manufacturing time and variability.
Lightweight composite components are fundamental to the efficiency of electric hydrofoils, but manufacturing thick carbon fibre epoxy laminates for safety-critical applications presents significant challenges in terms of impregnation, process control and final quality.
The programme combined Composite Integration’s resin infusion expertise with a customised CIJECT 2 system featuring integrated resin tanks. Over approximately three years, the partners refined critical infusion parameters, validated manufacturing methods and established a process capable of delivering laminate quality comparable to prepreg manufacture.
According to Composite Integration, the new approach has significantly reduced manufacturing time compared with the previous prepreg process, while improving efficiency, process control and production consistency.
The customised infusion system provides stable resin delivery and reduces operator variability, both of which become increasingly important as production volumes grow while quality requirements remain unchanged.
The project therefore demonstrates how resin infusion can evolve from a largely craft-based process into a controlled industrial technology, providing a practical route towards serial production of large composite structures for electric marine mobility.
