Avient is expanding its continuous fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composite portfolio while introducing new digital simulation capabilities designed to shorten the path from engineering to production. The new solutions will be presented at CAMX 2026, from 22 to 24 September, alongside the company’s broader advanced composites portfolio.
The Polystrand portfolio is being expanded with several new thermoplastic tapes. New Nylon 6 (PA6) grades feature 50–70% glass fibre content and target applications including structural components for transportation and consumer goods. New PET tapes maintain their full mechanical properties up to approximately 85°C, while HDPE tapes can provide, according to Avient, up to 20% improved tensile strength for high-load applications such as pipe reinforcement and structural decking.
Alongside the new materials, Avient is introducing simulation-ready material cards for its polypropylene-based, continuous E-glass fibre-reinforced Polystrand unidirectional tapes with glass contents ranging from 60 to 70%. The datasets are compatible with Simutence software and finite element analysis (FEA) platforms.
The aim is to allow engineers to evaluate material behaviour earlier in the development process and compare different options before committing to physical prototypes. This approach can reduce design iterations, development time and associated costs.
The strategy reflects the growing adoption of continuous fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composites in structural applications where lightweighting, faster manufacturing cycles and recyclability are increasingly important. Polystrand materials can also be thermoformed and co-moulded with other materials, combining continuous reinforcement with high-productivity manufacturing processes.
At CAMX, Avient will also showcase developments in its Complēt long fibre-reinforced thermoplastic portfolio and a carbon fibre-reinforced geopolymer composite technology designed for applications in extreme thermal environments.
