CMP Composites expands with new 4,700 m² facility

The new Blanquefort site near Bordeaux strengthens aerospace, space and defence activities and is designed to move filament winding from prototyping towards low-rate production

CMP Composites has inaugurated a new industrial facility of approximately 4,700 m² in Blanquefort, near Bordeaux, significantly expanding its manufacturing capacity across the aerospace, space and defence sectors. The new site replaces the company’s previous 1,200 m² facility and marks an important step in its industrial growth.

A core technology remains filament winding, used to manufacture high-performance composite tanks and structural components. With the new facility, CMP aims to increase industrialisation capacity and move more efficiently from development and prototyping into low-rate production.

Among the company’s key areas of expertise is the development of fully composite cryogenic tanks, particularly for space applications involving liquid oxygen. More recently, CMP has also extended its activities to liquid hydrogen applications in aviation, where low weight, tightness and resistance to extremely low temperatures are critical requirements.

The Blanquefort expansion will allow engineering, manufacturing and inspection activities to be more closely integrated, improving continuity between product development and production. The larger footprint is also expected to support additional equipment and higher manufacturing volumes.

The new facility therefore reinforces the position of CMP Composites within the French advanced-composites supply chain, with a focus on tanks, lightweight structures and components for next-generation propulsion systems and space platforms.
