Lockheed Martin and Albany Engineered Composites (AEC), a business of Albany International, have signed a teaming agreement aimed at accelerating the large-scale production of hypersonic systems for the United States.
The agreement combines Lockheed Martin's systems integration expertise with Albany Engineered Composites' advanced composite manufacturing capabilities, particularly in the production of aeroshell structures for hypersonic applications.
The objective is to develop scalable manufacturing capacity capable of supporting growing demand and future high-rate production requirements for hypersonic programmes.
According to the companies, moving from development to industrial-scale production represents one of the key challenges facing the sector. The collaboration will therefore focus on integrating technologies, manufacturing processes and supply chains to increase the ability to manufacture advanced components more rapidly and efficiently.
Albany Engineered Composites brings its experience in the design and production of complex composite structures for aerospace and defence applications, while Lockheed Martin will contribute its expertise in the development and integration of hypersonic systems.
The partnership is therefore intended to establish a manufacturing base capable of supporting U.S. programmes as they move towards higher production rates, highlighting the strategic role of composite materials in the next generation of high-performance systems.
