Pilatus invests CHF 100 million in new composites competence centre

The new facility in Ennetbürgen brings composite development and manufacturing under one roof as Pilatus prepares to expand the use of lightweight structures in future aircraft

Pilatus has opened its new Schwarzhorn Composites Competence Center in Switzerland, following an investment of around CHF 100 million, the company's largest investment in a single new facility to date. The building will provide workspaces for approximately 300 employees.

For the first time, Pilatus is bringing the entire composite production process under one roof, from raw-material storage and component manufacturing to subassembly and surface treatment. The facility has also been designed to accommodate new manufacturing and inspection technologies and increased automation.

Pilatus has worked with fibre-reinforced composites for more than 40 years. Their use has expanded from non-load-bearing components to primary structures on the PC-24, and the company plans to further increase their adoption in future aircraft to reduce weight and fuel consumption.
