Porsche Mission S previews a new mid-engined supercar family

The concept introduces Porsche’s future design direction and previews a new model family positioned above the 911, combining a purist cockpit with analogue and digital controls

Porsche has unveiled the Mission S, a concept car that previews the brand’s future design language and introduces a new architecture for a mid-engined supercar family positioned above the 911.

The car is part of Porsche’s “Sportwagenschmiede ’35” strategic realignment and is intended to provide a long-term vision for future production models. The aim is to preserve an immediately recognisable Porsche identity while reinterpreting elements from the company’s sporting heritage.

The world premiere took place in New York, on a pier in Queens chosen for its historical significance: some of the first photographs of the Porsche 550 Spyder were taken there in 1953, helping establish the mid-engined sports car as an early icon of the brand in the United States.

Mission S adopts proportions strongly influenced by its mid-engine layout. Pronounced fenders, the roofline, low front section and rear architecture reference models including the 911, 959, 928, GT1 and 917, reworked through cleaner surfaces and a new approach to vehicle volumes.

Technical elements are integrated directly into the design, including a cooling solution inspired by the Porsche 917 fan and a fully integrated active rear wing. The wheels reinterpret the classic “telephone dial” theme associated with the 928.
Inside, Porsche has taken a deliberately purist approach. The cockpit is centred around the driver and combines five circular instruments, an analogue rev counter, digital displays and physical controls. There is no permanently integrated central screen; instead, the concept uses a retractable MagSafe-compatible smartphone holder for navigation and vehicle information.

Mission S therefore represents not only a new design direction, but also the conceptual basis for a future permanent supercar range. Porsche says this will not be a single limited hypercar, but a family of variants based on a dedicated mid-engine platform.
