PulPro-SMC enables weld-free composite joints for lightweight rail vehicles

The German project concludes three years of research with a 20% weight reduction

The German PulPro-SMC project has completed three years of research by demonstrating a new method to join pultruded profiles and Sheet Molding Compound nodes in a single pressing cycle, without separate welding or joining technologies.

Coordinated by HÖRMANN Vehicle Engineering with partners including Fraunhofer IWU, Polynt and Conbility, the project targets lightweight mobility and energy efficiency.

According to HÖRMANN, the demonstrator achieved a 20% weight reduction, opening new opportunities for composite structures in rail vehicles.
