Roth brings composite automation to the hydrogen economy

From 20 to 22 October 2026 in Hamburg, Roth Composite Machinery will showcase automated filament winding, process control and software solutions for industrial production of fibre-reinforced components for hydrogen applications

Roth Composite Machinery will present its technologies for automated composite manufacturing at Hydrogen Technology Expo Europe 2026, taking place in Hamburg from 20 to 22 October.

The German company is focusing on automation, precision and repeatability, which are key requirements for industrialising fibre-reinforced components for hydrogen applications. Composite materials combine high strength and stiffness with low weight, but their performance depends strongly on accurate and controlled manufacturing processes.

A central technology in Roth’s portfolio is filament winding, where reinforcing fibres are automatically wound onto a mandrel or liner according to predefined winding patterns. Automation allows high repeatability, supports different component geometries and makes it possible to implement complex winding strategies while maintaining defined process parameters.

Another key element is dedicated simulation and programming software, used to digitally model winding processes and align machine control with component requirements, material properties and efficient machine kinematics.

For sophisticated composite components used in the hydrogen economy, reproducible fibre placement is particularly important. Fibre angle, fibre distribution and winding patterns have a direct influence on final mechanical properties and therefore require precise and consistent process control.

At Hydrogen Technology Expo, Roth will demonstrate an integrated approach combining machine technology, automation and software, from digital process planning through to automated production. The objective is to create more stable and efficient manufacturing processes capable of supporting cost-effective serial production.

Roth Composite Machinery will exhibit in Hall B5, Booth 5B45.
